The 26 sailors have been blessed with summer-like weather including bright skies and almost warm sunshine. ISA Mitsubishi Youth Nationals 2012 - Entries now open.
Entries are now open for the ISA Mitsubishi Youth National Championship 2012. This is an important qualifier/selector for the 420s. For youth sailors, this event is the most important in the annual calendar as it is the decider for the top Irish sailors to compete internationally during 2012 and is the pathway for future Olympic sailors. 2012 Event CalendarKey events planned for the year ahead are listed below. We currently have a number of sailors interested in the camp with some over seas sailors also interested, we hope to have these confirmed over the next week. If anyone has a boat which they may be able to loan to these sailors, that would be great. 420 End of Seasons Event ReportThe Irish 420 fleet arrived in Lough Derg last weekend for the End of Seasons. Many boats partook in a three day training course with Olympian Ger Owens and former 420 sailor Rob Lehane prior to the event, while others were coached by Tom Mapleback for three days in Galway. Overall the fleet came to the event very well prepared. The event was held in surprisingly sunny conditions but with that sun came very little wind and bitterly cold weather. End Of Seasons Regatta and AGM, 5th & 6th November - LDYC DromineerThe sailing documentation for the 420 End of Season Regatta is attached. The event is due to take place at LDYC on the 5th and 6th of November. Registration is 9:00-10:30am with the first warning signal at 10:55am to allow for four races on Saturday. I would like to remind you that the AGM of the Irish International 420 Class Association will take place at 6pm on Sat 5th of November at the LDYC clubhouse 420 Leinster Training 22nd and 23rd OctoberA training clinic for all Leinster 420 sailors will take place in the Royal St George Yacht Club. This is a 2 day event with top UK and Irish National 420 coach Tom Mapplebeck. There will be a special module for those new to the class focusing on: The cost is estimated to be 80 euro per boat (40 per sailor). RSGYC 420 sailors doing the winter training the cost in included in your fee. If you don't have a boat but want to try the class there may be an option to charter a boat for the weekend. Fifty sailors attended the National event representing their various clubs; Lough Foyle Sailing Club, Skerries Sailing Club, Glandore Sailing Club, Malahide Yacht Club, Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis club, Tralee Bay Sailing Club, Royal Cork Yacht Club, Royal St. George Yacht Club, Howth Yacht Club, Galway Bay Sailing Club and Cumann Seoilteoireachta an Spidéil. 420 Nationals - Sailing Instructions and Event UpdateA Chairde, Hi all, we are eagerly looking forward to welcoming all 420 sailors to this years National Championships at An Spideal (Spiddal). This is our first event of this size and we are keen to ensure you enjoy your visit to An Spideal. There will be racing in Gold and Silver fleet and novice 420 sailors are especially welcome.
