19 boats for class training in Howth

A strong local contingent 9 boats from Skerries, Malahide, Howth, Sutton and Clontarf and 10 visitors from Dunlaoghaire, Wexford, Cork, Tralee and Galway made a superb weekend of class coaching in Howth.

Near perfect training conditions were provided on the Saturday with an average 10 knots and sun shine giving plenty of opportunity to learn new skills or develop existing ones under the guidance of the coaching team.  The coaching team was headed up by Ross Killian, 420 national coach, and assisted by Ger Owens, Tomas Mapplebeck and Graeme Grant. The sailors enjoyed dinner in the evening giving an opportunity to unwind and have some banter about the day’s activities on the water and to eat some birthday cake.

Sunday saw slightly poorer weather conditions in the morning with rain dying out to very cold conditions but the perfect wind was still there giving two great sessions on the water. The weekend has provided great support to the growing class of 420s in Howth Yacht Club and the surrounding area. But was also a great indicator to the strength and depth of the class for the upcoming 2013 season.

Special thanks have to go to all of the sailors without whom the event could not have been the success it was, Irish 420 class association and Brian Mc Dowell for co ordination and support before, during and after; Howth Yacht Club for the use of the facility and access to the fantastic training areas; Ian Dickson, Malahide YC  and the ISA for use of the coach boats;  the coaches; and Des Flood the class captain in Howth.

Winter training will continue in Howth Yacht Club

The next class training will be in the Royal St George Yacht Club 11th-12th November

Leinster Winter Training - Howth

To encourage and promote the growth of the 420 class at HYC, we are working with the 420 class association and other clubs in the Leinister region.  The aim of the training is to allow sailors to keep enjoying their sailing outside of the summer months, while working on improving their boat handling skills and racing technique.

The training is open to all 420 sailors and there are a few boats that are made available for sailors that would like to try the class The 420 class captain Des Flood in conjunction with Brian McDowell of MYC have laid out a training schedule:-
